Musical educator, bandleader, played ten instruments in various groups. From 1966, he was a teacher in the People's Art School in Strakonice. During this time, he was also the bandleader of the school's wind ensemble. His older members stood at the origin of the wind ensemble ČEZETA in 1971. In the 1990s he founded the small wind group Nektarka, consisting mostly of his former students. He nurtured hundreds of musicians during his life.
Academic painter One of the most important figurative artist of the 20th century. Graduated from the Academy of Visual Arts. During his studies, he had already made an impact on the public scene, both domestic and foreign, and participated on exhibitions. His works are included in a number of both Czech and foreign galleries. In 1972, he obtained a manor in Hajská u Strakonic, where he would spend his free time and create.
Counted among the best ČZ racers. He had served out in the Armament Works in Strakonice and proceeded to work here for 47 years. He would do excellently in both contests and motocross. He attended 13 Six Days events and was a member of the winning Trophy team in 1954, 1956, 1958, 1959 and 1962.
Jan of Rožmberk was the first lord of the town to make an effort in order to make Strakonice an actual town, as opposed to a mere conglomeration of four settlements. To achieve this, he had town fortifications and a moat built at the north side. He supported the expansion of the town and initiated an extensive renaissance reconstruction of the castle. He had the oriel-tower Jelenka built. The contemporary town's coat of arms comes from the era of Jan of Rožmberk as well.
Academic painter, graphic artist and illustrator He would engage himself in works such as posters for the film print design, decorative mosaics for public interiors and designing awards for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. He is the father of the actor Jiří Štěpnička.
Painter, originally worked as a ceramicist Paints mostly using dry pastels, but also tempera and oil. He mostly focuses on mimes, ballerinas and clowns, as well as figures, nudes and lyrical landscapes. Having painted over a thousand paintings, he has exhibited his works in a number of cities.
Engineer, colonel of the Imperial Field Artillery In his last will written in 1685 in the military camp at Ráb, he bequested a sum of 10,000 gold pieces in favour of the hospital for men and women in Strakonice. Within the will, he had defined the way patients are supposed to be clothed, the daily prayer regime and the extent of treatments. The hospital building in the Řepnická brána suburb area was purchased by Siebert's father Wincenc Karel (then-mayor of the town).
Writer, publicist Father of the actor Miloslav Šimek. He published the auxiliary ledger Strakonice – Propagation and Directory. He was also an editor of the magazines Selské Listy and Nová Šumava. He has authored several collections of poems and writings.
Opera singer Graduated from the State Conservatory in Prague in 1988. A member of the National Theatre Opera Studio (playing Vašek in The Bartered Bride, Toník in The Two Widows or Tamino in The Magic Flute). Since 1990, he has been a soloist of the Karlín Musical Theatre, performing tenure roles in many musical plays, such as Alfred in The Bat.
Czech puppeteer, director and stage designer, academic painter, secondary school professor, a significant figure of Czech and international puppet theatre, creator of the puppet characters Spejbl and Hurvínek. From 1917, he cooperated with the Puppet Theatre in Pilsen, displaying his acting talent as well as his writing and directing skills. In 1930, he founded his own professional puppet theatre in Pilsen. In 1945, he founded the Theatre of Spejbl and Hurvínek in Prague, with a repertoire aimed at both children and adults.
Bagpiper Originally a shoemaker who could not keep up with the competition from Baťa. He left his shoemaking profession, bought a set of bagpipes from the bagpipe maker Štefek and learned how to play it. In 1926, he had acquired an official licence and proceeded to make a living for himself and his family playing bagpipes. He performed in various places in Bohemia.
Physician, virologist He conducted research and development of virus vaccines such as the anti-poliomyelitis vaccine. He graduated from the secondary school in Strakonice and worked in the hospital of Strakonice in 1944 and 1945. His scientific work attracted the attention of scientists from far abroad.
National revivalist Studied in Strakonice, Písek and Prague. After the student riots in 1825, he was conscripted as a punishment. He was released from the service after seven years due to his poor health. He finished his studies in České Budějovice and after a short attempt at a teaching career, he took a caretaker's job in Strakonice. In 1834, he was ordained in České Budějovice. He was vastly enthusiastic about Czech literature and tried to propagate it throughout his whole life.
Man of letters, lyricist His first publication was released in collaboration with his co-student Zdeněk Bugáň as a small-imprint bibliophilia at their own expense. He had contributed his lyrics for the theatre plays of the director Petr Poledňák. He would publish literary reviews in the magazine Tvar. He is a member of the Czech PEN club. He has published over twenty collections of poems. He worked as a pharmacist in Strakonice.
Football trainer, referee, introduced to the Sports Hall of Fame of the region of Strakonicko. Was a player at the football club Jiskra Strakonice. A former trainer of the ČZ Strakonice football team. Since 1980, he was a head league referee. He has refereed a number of qualification matches for both the European and world championships. He was an employee of OV ČSTV, as well as a secretary of the regional football association. In 2012, FAČR awarded him with the Dr. Václav Jíra award.
Dentist and resistance fighter from Strakonice He was a member of the resistance group Předvoj, which was a part of the Youth of Prague society associated with the evangelical church. It was founded in 1943/44. He was arrested by the Nazis, imprisoned and was among the last to be executed in the fort of Terezín.
Writer At the age of fifteen, he was deported to Terezín and then transported to Auschwitz. In 1945, he was forced to participate in a death march, which he ended up surviving. In 1965, he emigrated to Washington, where he worked as a translator and interpreter. In 2006, he was awarded the memorial medal "Za vlast a za svobodu" ("For the Country and Freedom") at the Czech freedom fighters' association meeting. He wrote the auto-biographic novel series Utkáno z Lana Katova.
Professor at the secondary school of Strakonice, cultural worker and publicist. Was the chief initiator of the 25th and the 50th founding anniversary of the secondary school, proofreading both almanacs published on this occasion. As an agent of the museum society of the Dyk homeland museum, he participated in building new expositions at the castle of Strakonice. After 1980, he was a librarian in Katowice. His poetry focuses on nature and lyrical landscapes, mostly in the south-Bohemian region. He published his works in magazines and authored several collections of poems.
Ice hockey goalkeeper Started out playing ice hockey with ČZ Strakonice. Since 1996, he played in NHL. He represented the Czech Republic on numerous occasions, becoming the world champion (Vienna 1996), best goalkeeper of the 1996 world championship, as well as a member of the All Stars team of the 1995 and 1996 world championships. In 2005, he announced his departure from the NHL and became a permanent player of HC České Budějovice.
