Château Střela

Château Střela, with its Baroque chapel and the ruins of an old castle, is situated approximately 5 km from Strakonice. A castle, which had two sections, originally stood in this location and only the torso of the ruins reminds us of the upper section. The lower section, called the château, was converted into its Renaissance appearance in the 16th century. The château was modified into its current appearance by the Jesuit Order. A chapel, devoted to Saint John the Baptist, was added to the complex. After the order was dissolved in 1773, the manor was obtained by a study fund. The castle changed hands several times. The complex housed a special boarding school after the Second World War and subsequently the State District Archive. Today Château Střela, with its 3.42 ha of park, is in private hands again and is not open to the public. It is a single-storey building, with an irregular six-sided floor-plan with a courtyard. There are arcades with squared columns facing into the courtyard and the façade is divided by pilasters. There is a single-story grain store (špýchar) dating from the 16th century located below the château.
