Jan Hus in Renner Gardens

„Světlé památce M. Jana Husi 1925
Hledej pravdu – uč se pravdě
miluj pravdu – prav pravdu
drž pravdu až do smrti
Vždyť žár pravdy nezhasí
kdo lidi zdrtí a život ve lži
horší byl by smrti“
Its author was academic sculptor Vojtěch Šíp from Plzeň. The inscription on the monument is a paraphrase of the text of Výklad Viery, Desatera a Páteře [Interpretation of Confession, the Ten Commandments and Our Father] from 1412.
The first part of the monument with a statue of Jan Hus was unveiled on 13 September 1925; it originally occupied a position at Husovo nábřeží (the present day Na Dubovci Street). The entire sculpture with statues of George of Poděbrady, Jan Žižka of Trocnov, a German crusader and the Lord of Rožmberk was completed a year later, on 19 September 1926. These four statues were removed during World War II. The construction of a new bridge over the Otava River in the 1970s required that the monument be moved to Rennerovy sady. Nowadays, the monument shows a statue of Master Jan Hus.
