Partnerships with foreign towns have a long lasting tradition in Strakonice. Some of them were made before November revolution in 1989, e.g. with Mozyr or Nea Ionia in Greece. In 1994, it was also concluded a partnership with the town of IJsselstein in Netherlands. Several partnerships had been in the pipeline; however, for various reasons a more extensive cooperation did not occur. Some of the contacts have faded out, some of them have lasted. At present, Strakonice partners with Bad Salzungen, Germany, Lengnau, Switzerland, and Calderdale in Great Britain.
