MUDr. Ludvík Hloucal, DrSc.
Physician, correspondent member of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, J. E. Purkyně medal awardee Born in Pula, Istria, where his father served in the navy. In 1918, his family returned to Czechoslovakia and lived in Prague and Bratislava. He studied at the Faculty of Medicine at Komenský University in Bratislava. Afterwards, he went on to work as a scientist. He published 120 scientific medical publications. He moved from Slovakia to Prague to join the 1st intern clinic of prof. Dr. Hynek. In 1943, he moved to Strakonice as the head of the infection and intern ward of the district hospital. After the events of May 1945, 52 prisoners afflicted by camp-fever arrived on his ward. He saved all of them except for one.
