Jan Matásek
Bagpiper One of the most popular travelling bagpipers of Strakonice. Studied clarinet playing with Mr. Hrdlička in Sedlíkovice and played in the group of Mr. Hrubý of Volyně. He taught himself how to play the bagpipe and proceeded to travel around Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia. He would always perform in a hand-knitted Chod costume with the lettering "Strakonický dudák" (The Bagpiper of Strakonice). On his travels, he had written down over a hundred songs, which also included some of his own. He spent the last years of his life in a retirement home in Strakonice. In 1980, he said goodbye to his audience at the 6th international bagpiping festival in Strakonice, though he did not perform.
