Jan III. z Rožmberka
Jan of Rožmberk was the first lord of the town to make an effort in order to make Strakonice an actual town, as opposed to a mere conglomeration of four settlements. To achieve this, he had town fortifications and a moat built at the north side. He supported the expansion of the town and initiated an extensive renaissance reconstruction of the castle. He had the oriel-tower Jelenka built. The contemporary town's coat of arms comes from the era of Jan of Rožmberk as well. He was the representative of a significant Czech dynasty and the highest representative of the Order of Saint John in Bohemia.
