František Ladislav Čelakovský
Poet of the National Revival era, critic and translator. After graduating from a German School, he moved on to the Piarist Secondary School in České Budějovice, finishing at the Secondary School in Písek. His work was influenced by his friend Jan Vlastislav Plánek. He had a great affection for the town and its surroundings, cherishing his memories of Kuřidlo and Panská zahrada even in his adult years.
In August 1862, a plaque was ceremonially revealed on the birth house of F. L. Čelakovský in a narrow street near the town walls. The house was torn down in 1983. To mark the 125th anniversary of the birth of F. L. Čelakovský, a memorial was created on the former Zellerin hillside (now known as Kalvárie), his favourite place to gather inspiration. The bust is a work of Vojtěch Šíp, a sculptor from Pilsen. Featuring a beautiful view of the Otava river, this place has been dubbed "U Ládíčka" (referring to Čelakovský) by the locals. There is also a statue created by Břetislav Benda in 1967 in Bezděkovská Street.
